This year is very exciting! It is your child’s first year at school!

Over the year your children will start to learn how to read using the Read Write Inc programme. We will be learning the first 26 letter sounds. Throughout the year we will continue to develop our reading and writing skills, beginning to read and write sentences. We will also be developing our handwriting skills.  This year in maths we will be developing basic maths skills across the different areas. Initially we will begin with recognising numbers to 10 and counting objects using 1 to 1 correspondence. We will be orally counting to 20 and recognising some 2D shapes.

To start our year in Reception we will be learning about names and talk about special people in our family. We will move on to look at how we are similar and different to each other. In Autumn term 2 we will learn about our body and skeleton and look at ways to keep healthy. In spring we are looking at lots of interesting things. We are starting the term by looking at winter. Then we will be learning about Chinese New Year and we will also learn about castles and royalty. In Spring term 2 we will be learning about houses and homes and traditional tales. We will look at Tales such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Gingerbread man where we will make our own gingerbreads.  Finally during our last term in Reception we will be looking at plants and insects. This will lead onto learning about healthy foods that we grow and try tasting a variety of different vegetables. We will also have some visitors in class. We will have an incubator full of chick eggs so we can watch them hatch and learn how to look after them. In Summer term 2 we will be learning about pirates and the seaside. We will also be learning about what creatures live in the sea, zoo and farm.

Thank you for all your support.
