This year is very exciting! For the Reception children, it is their first year at school!
In Reception, your child will start to learn how to read using the Read Write Inc programme. We will be
learning the first 26 letter sounds. Throughout the year we will continue to develop our reading and writing
skills, beginning to read and write sentences. We will also be developing our handwriting skills. This year
in maths we will be developing basic maths skills across the different areas. Initially we will begin with
recognising numbers to 10 and counting objects using 1 to 1 correspondence. We will be orally counting to 20
and recognising some 2D shapes.
To start our year we will be learning about names and talk about special people in our family. We will move
on to look at how we are similar and different to each other. In Autumn term 2 we will learn about our body
and skeleton and look at ways to keep healthy. In spring we are looking at lots of interesting things. We
will start the term by looking at Winter. Then we will be learning about Chinese New Year. In Spring term 2
we will be learning about houses and homes and traditional tales. We will look at tales such as Goldilocks
and the Three Bears and The Gingerbread man. Finally during our last term we will be looking at plants and
insects. This will lead onto learning about healthy foods that we grow and we will try tasting a variety of
different vegetables. In Summer term 2 we will be learning about pirates and the seaside. We will also be
learning about what creatures live in the sea.
PE is on a Friday, please make sure your child has their PE kit in
Please make sure your child brings a coat to school everyday. We spend a
lot of time outside in Reception.
