Relationships & Sex Education Intent, Implementation and Impact Statement

Curriculum Lead Teacher: Mrs Boothby/Mrs Kidman

At St Gabriel’s our RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) is taught through  ‘A Journey In Love’ (Nursery – Year 6) scheme.  It is the recommended programme of study for Catholic schools, which have been written so that year on year the children build on their knowledge and awareness.  It also supports the Religious Education, PSHE and Science curriculum taught within the school. The Journey in Love scheme acts as the bones of our RSHE curriculum, with the supporting PSHE objectives taken from the PSHE association and/ or bespoke to the needs of our children.

As with all aspects of learning, children are naturally curious and many will have questions related to their lessons.  Opportunities to discuss questions form part of their lessons and again these are treated with care and understanding.  ‘A Journey In Love’ and ‘All That I highlight the importance of parental input and children will be encouraged to discuss their lessons at home.  As a parent/carer of a Year 5/6 child you will be informed when RSE lessons will take place and invited to attend a meeting to introduce you to the materials, which will be used with your child. You have the right to withdraw your child from certain aspects of RSE at any time if you wish to do so, however we do require written permission for this.
